What is a skylight?
A skylight is essentially a window in a roof, it can be fixed or operable in that it can open for increased ventilation. It allows natural light into a room; a skylight can make a huge difference to the amount of light in a room.
How much does it cost to install a skylight?
Skylight prices vary considerably, the size of the unit is one factor. It will also depend on the work required to install it. If it is installed in a new roof costings will be different to installing into an existing roof. At Mummery and Mummery we offer an obligation free quote, just call us for an appointment.
How to clean skylights?
Skylights can usually be cleaned just like regular windows. However, some skylights may be made of acrylic and therefore should not be treated with harsh chemicals, details of which you will be advised on when they are installed. You may be happy to do the inside yourself. Outside will require a ladder and possibly a professional to clean it.
Do skylights need planning permission?
Planning permission is not generally required for skylights. The reason you may need permission is if you live in a conservation area or have a listed property. If you have any doubts as to whether the area you live in is a conservation area we suggest a simple call to your local councils planing department will give the answer.
