Roofing Insulation FAQ

What is roof Insulation?

Roof insulation is a material that you place between the rafters of your roof in your loft or attic. If you do not use roof insulation there is only a layer of tiles between your home and the outside elements.

About a quarter of a house’s heat is lost through an roof with no insulation, that’s a lot of expensive heat being lost that could remain inside your home. Insulation also keeps you home cool in summer by repelling the suns rays.

When should I add roof insulation?

The ideal time to add roof insulation tends to be when a house is built or a a new roof is installed, Mummery and Mummery will always recommend insulation when we install a new roof.

Of course many of us live in older homes with little or no insulation, insulation can be added at any time, access is needed via the loft or attic.

Is Insulation environmentally friendly?

Having insulation reduces your carbon footprint extensively, it keeps your home warm while reducing the need for heat from your boiler.
