Gutter Cleaning FAQ
How much does it cost to clean gutters?
Cleaning gutters is a worthwhile part of maintaining the outside of your home. The cost of cleaning these will vary according to how accessible your gutters are and how big your house is, the bigger the house the more gutters you will have. We at Mummery and Mummery are happy to quote for this, just give us a call or drop us a message.
How often should I clean my gutters?
Ideally gutters should be cleaned twice a year. Once in late spring and again in autumn. You may need them done more often depending on the foliage around your property, obviously many trees will add to the debris blocking them. If it has been a dry, hot summer you may find small branches and birds nests in your gutters. It is only when the heavier rain comes that you may notice overflowing gutters. Moss from roofs can be a real problem and builds up surprisingly quickly.
What happens if you don’t clean your gutters?
If you don’t have your gutters cleaned it can lead to many problems both outside and inside your property. Dead leaves can lead to stagnant dirty water which will create mould. This mould can penetrate into your walls and soffit boards and can enter your home, as we know mould is detrimental to your health.
Overflowing gutters allow water to run down your property damaging brickwork, loosening mortar and penetrating your walls. Foundations can crack from excess water and driveways can be damaged.
Built up debris can also damage your roof and soffit boards causing rot and the need for costly repairs.
Why can’t I clean my own gutters?
We would advise you to not attempt to do this yourself. Climbing up a ladder, balancing with a trowel and carrying a bucket full of soggy leaves and moss is not something to be undertaken lightly. We have professional equipment to keep our operatives safe and use tools and machinery especially for clearing gutters. We are able to flush out downpipes as just cleaning the gutters is not a complete job.
